Volunteer participation in Temple Sinai of Hollywood’s broad array of religious and social activities and programs gives members the opportunity to bring Torah to life and to feel more connected to the synagogue community.
Please call Rosanne Mendelowitz, Temple Sinai’s Executive Director, at (954) 987-0026 to learn more about how and where you can get involved.
Jacob and Reuben Latorre recently collected and delivered 8 buckets and two large boxes of art and school supplies to the endocrinology department at the Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital and two overflowing shopping carts to the Kosher Food Bank as part of their B’nai Mitzvah Project.
The boys checked all food items for a hechsher (kosher symbol), as they shelved them. Individuals and families visit and shop at the Bank by appointment to maintain the privacy of all involved. The Food Bank gives more than food. They connect those in need with job services, supplies for each new school year, party supplies for children whose parents do not have enough money to pay for a party, and children’s books for homeschoolers.
The Food Bank relies solely on donations. Says Miriam Latorre: “We are blessed to have been surrounded by our family and friends who joined in our celebration. We are fortunate to give to others in hard times, who have to decide to pay rent for a roof over their head or eat. There is a place where they can find nourishment while working toward improving the quality of their lives in a dignified manner. Tzedakkah is not only charity, but the right and just actions we take for our community. Kol yisrael arevim zeh ba’zeh – all the children of Israel are responsible for each other – individually and collectively.”
